APPLAUSE: Community comes through in fight against cancer

NANAIMO – More than $4,000 raised thanks to generosity of businesses, individuals.

To the Editor,

Recently, the Vancouver Island Vocational and Rehabilitation Services held an event at Fibber Magees to raise funds in the fight against cancer.

We wanted all the funds raised to stay in Nanaimo, and after connecting with the Nanaimo and District Hospital Foundation, decided the money would be split between the cancer unit and the palliative care ward.

We were overwhelmed with the Nanaimo and area businesses and organizations that stepped up and donated items and/or services to our event and the people who came out and supported us as well. Thanks to everyone, we raised more than $4,000.

We are well aware of how inundated local businesses are with requests for donations and would like to share with our community a huge thank you from VIVRS.
