Alzheimer society puts minds in motion

The Alzheimer Society of B.C. is offering weekly Minds in Motion sessions in Nanaimo.

Community members experiencing early memory loss are encouraged to set their minds in motion.

The Alzheimer Society of B.C. is offering weekly Minds in Motion sessions in Nanaimo.

Participants, accompanied by a friend, family member or caregiver, perform light exercise guided by an instructor, followed by games, activities and social time.

“People with dementia and their care partners have something to look forward to, a reason to get out of the house and a topic to talk about afterwards,” said Shanan St. Louis, the society’s Minds in Motion coordinator for central and north Island, in a press release. “It’s a safe place to go and a good cognitive workout.”

The program runs Tuesdays at the Beban Park social centre. There are sessions from 10 a.m.-noon and from 1-3 p.m. Cost is $51.

To register, please contact St. Louis at 250-734-4170 or e-mail sstlouis@alzheimerbc.org.
