Nanaimo’s African Heritage Society is in the mood to celebrate and is hosting Culture Days – A Picnic in the Park Oct. 2 at Maffeo Sutton Park between noon and 5 p.m.

The event is an old-fashioned picnic for the soul, bringing the area’s many cultural groups and families together and celebrating the contributions different cultures bring to the community.

The day features performing arts, dance and music groups, children’s performances, games and prizes, vendor tables with visual art and more.

Admission is free though donations to the Canadian Red Cross in support of famine relief in Africa are encouraged.

Participants can pack their own picnic or purchase a meal from a large range of homemade delicacies made by a variety of cultural cooks.
