Brian Gueldenstern, B.C. Hydro technician, scales a utility pole on Bastion Street to remove a protective cover from a wire bundle.

B.C. Hydro crews took the opportunity to replace the pole, which cut power to the Coast Bastion Inn, while the hotel upgraded and serviced equipment in its electrical transformer room. The hotel was closed from 11 a.m. Thursday until early Friday morning. Volker Grady, hotel manager, said early April is traditionally a slow period for the hotel and a good time to undertake the work.
