Beefs and bouquets

Beef. I witnessed an older woman as she removed two full garbage bags of cans and bottles from the drop-off bin outside the church. I managed to snap a few pictures of her and sent them to the charity. Some folks have no conscience.

Beef to the lady in the beige vehicle losing her mind. It was a 30km/h school zone. If you were abiding by it there would not have been an issue that I pulled out in front of you, I would have even apologized to you.

Beef to the man who pulled over after I hit black ice and my car became stuck in the ditch. Instead of asking if I was OK or needed help, you scolded me to not park where my car had ended up.

Bouquet to the eight-year-old Mountain View Elementary student who made door decorations to collect money to ensure a family at our school could enjoy a Christmas dinner. Your kind-hearted nature and generous spirit are so appreciated and admired.

Beef to people who don’t pay attention to where they park. My driver’s side had no room to open the door as someone parked too close to my door. I was so annoyed and had to go to my passenger side to get in but found someone had backed into the stall on that side and I couldn’t get in my car. I had to wait two hours before either one came out so I could get in my car.

Beef to the person who keyed my car while I was out volunteering for my community. Even though it has Alberta plates, it’s a courtesy car from the body shop.

Beef to the person in a yellowish wood-panelled GMC who threw an egg at my dad while he was biking home at night. What is wrong with you?

Beef to the makers of crinkly chip bags. I can’t sneak a midnight snack without waking the whole house up.

There is way too much loud background ‘music’ – actually noise – that now accompanies most TV shows and documentaries.

Beef. I’m an old woman with a European accent. I often experience discrimination. I see it this way: I’m an oak tree. When a dirty wild boar rubs his skin against my bark, he needs relief from the itchy parasites, bugs and whatever else is bothering him.

Beef. I was making a delivery on what can be a very busy Estevan Road. I had to park slightly off the road and onto the sidewalk. A couple walking by with their dog began shouting at me, their faces contorted with rage, saying I was breaking the law. Their walk was not impeded in any way – they had plenty of room to pass by. They just wanted to make a person doing their job feel bad for the rest of that day, I guess.

Thanks to the girl and her brother who drove after, chased down and got my purse back intact from the thief who grabbed it from my waist while I was putting groceries from my walker to my car trunk at the grocery store on Bowen Road. Also thanks to the lady who called 911 from her cellphone and the many people who asked if I was OK.

Beef to the person who borrowed the wheelbarrow from the Nanaimo Lawn Bowling Club, it would be much appreciated if you could return it after you have finished with it. Thank you, from a senior citizen volunteer gardener at the club.

Beef. How could you do what you did to your sister? What you have done will never be forgotten, may you rest in peace, but inevitably you won’t, Karma is not your friend.

Beef to Elections Canada for not allowing me to have an option to vote. I was diagnosed with COVID the day before Sept. 20 and no provision existed for me to vote, yet my partner could vote without any identification.

Bouquet to Meaghan who came to my rescue when my dog stepped on a wasp and wouldn’t walk on that leg. I couldn’t carry it. She very kindly carried my 20-pound dog uphill a quarter mile to my home while holding her two dogs on leashes. Thank you so much. The vet prescribed an antihistamine and the dog is doing well.

Beef to the camper who had a campfire on Mt. Benson in the false summit area. A bouquet to the man who berated the camper, and who then carried 10 litres of water up to the site the next morning and extinguished the still-smouldering, unattended fire.
