Young athletes excel at Canada Games

Rower Martin Barakso, baseball player Josh Burgmann, paddler Danielle Caron and wrestler Faye Tuck were among those who took part.

Local athletes helped Team B.C. to an impressive medal haul at the recent Canada Games.

Rower Martin Barakso, baseball player Josh Burgmann, paddler Danielle Caron and wrestler Faye Tuck were among those who took part at the event Aug. 2-17 in Sherbrooke, Que.

Barakso won two gold medals, winning in the eights with coxswain and also the fours. His Team B.C. boats crossed the finish line by a comfortable margin ahead of Team Ontario in both finals.

Burgmann, a relief pitcher, helped his team win gold. B.C. defeated Ontario 5-0 in the final.

B.C. finished third in the medal standings.
