Cedar’s Wheatsheaf Fastball Club won the Softball B.C. championship July 17 in Victoria, defeating the Sooke Loggers in the final.

Derek Mayson was winning pitcher in the big game and Dan Whiteford’s two-run home run in the first inning was all the offence the team needed.

Mayson and Gord Mainwaring each recorded two wins for Wheatsheaf. Whiteford had a pair of home runs in the tournament and other players who went yard include Dan Lee, Johnson Lucas and Blake Hunter.

The provincial championship means that the Wheatsheaf club qualifies for the Western Canadian Championships in 2012.

The Budget Red Sox earned bronze at provincials.
