VIU’s volleyball teams showing star power at mid-season

Vancouver Island University’s women’s and men’s volleyball squads host PacWest action this weekend (Jan. 20-21).

Volleyball teams will step back on home court for the first time in quite awhile.

Vancouver Island University’s women’s and men’s volleyball squads host Pacific Western Athletic Association action this weekend (Jan. 20-21) in their home gym for the first time since the end of November.

The Columbia Bible College Bearcats are in town for matches Friday at 6 p.m and 8 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

The Mariners men (13-1) are tied for first place while the M’s women (11-3) are second.

The PacWest released its mid-season league leaders this week and the Mariners have several stars.

For the women, Megan Rosenlund leads the league in kills with 3.43 per game while Mikayla Wagner is third with 3.26 per game. Cattie Hegglin leads the conference in blocks (1.20) and Kelsey Hutt leads in digs (4.12). Among the men, Braydon Brouwer leads the PacWest in kills (3.53) and Zach Grigg is third (3.02). Wayne Woyciehouski is first in blocks (1.06) and Matthew Graham is tied for first in digs (3.77).
