VIU v-ball teams rise to first, fall to last

The Mariners women improved on their undefeated record this past weekend against the Capilano Blues, while the M’s men sunk to last place.

Vancouver Island University’s volleyball teams are going in different directions to start the PacWest season.

The Mariners women improved on their undefeated record this past weekend against the Capilano Blues, while the M’s men sunk to last place.

VIU’s women got past Cap in four sets both Friday and Saturday in North Vancouver, winning 24-26, 25-21, 25-20, 25-14 and then 25-19, 14-25, 25-15, 25-19.

The Mariners men, meanwhile, lost in straight sets both days, falling 25-23, 25-20, 25-17 and then 25-23, 25-15, 25-18.

VIU’s volleyball teams are at home this coming weekend for Pacific Western Athletic Association action against the Columbia Bible College Bearcats. For the M’s women, the matches will have some meaning as it was CBC that upset VIU at provincials last winter.

GAME ON … The women’s matches are Friday (Nov. 1) at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. Men’s matches are at 8 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday.
