The Vancouver Island University Mariners, defending PacWest champions, are excited about another basketball season and any chance to get out on the court.
The VIU men’s b-ball team hosts its only home exhibition games this Friday and Saturday, Oct. 14-15, versus Unknown International, a club team from Vancouver.
“I don’t know too much about them, but it should be a good exhibition and a chance to see our guys in action against someone else,” said Matt Kuzminski, VIU coach. “They’ll have some big guys and it should be exciting.”
The Mariners started training camp the first day of classes in September and Kuzminski said players have been working hard, practices have been intense and guys are well-conditioned.
“It’s been a great group in that regard as far as being willing to learn and that’s encouraging for the progress we can make,” the coach said.
GAME ON … Friday’s game tips off at 7 p.m. and Saturday’s game tips off at 2 p.m. at the Vancouver Island University gym. Youth basketball players wearing their Island Swish jerseys will be admitted free.
