VIU Mariners win all their volleyball matches to stay unbeaten in new year

VIU’s volleyball teams won all their matches on home court this past weekend and remain undefeated in the new year.

Vancouver Island University’s women’s and men’s volleyball squads hosted the Capilano Blues in PacWest action on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 28-29, at the VIU gym.

The Mariners men swept their matches against the Capilano Blues to improve to 9-3 and pass the idle Douglas Royals atop the PacWest standings.

The VIU men beat Cap in five sets on Friday, winning 25-19, 23-25, 25-20, 23-25, 18-16, then won in three sets Saturday, 31-29, 26-24, 25-19.

VIU’s women won their matches against Capilano in straight sets, winning 25-14, 25-21, 25-22 on Friday and then 25-21, 25-17, 25-14 on Saturday. The Mariners women are second in the standings at 9-2.

GAME ON … VIU and Douglas will be playing for first place this coming Friday, Feb. 4, at the VIU gymnasium. The women’s match is at 5 p.m. and the men’s match follows at 7 p.m.
