VIU hockey team wins home opener

College hockey season started the right way with a solid win for the home team.

The Vancouver Island University Mariners hockey team started the B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League season this past weekend with a 4-1 win versus the Okanagan Lakers at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.

Gavin Rauser, Brock Palmer, Parker Bergstrom and Garrett Dunlop scored for VIU and Derek Krall was the winning goalie as shots ended up 35-16 in favour of the M’s.
