VIJHL's best teams face off

The Nanaimo Buccaneers (11-2) and the Victoria Cougars (12-0-0-1) face one another tonight (Oct. 17) at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.

The city’s junior B hockey team takes the ice for a premier matchup. The Nanaimo Buccaneers (11-2) and the Victoria Cougars (12-0-0-1) face one another tonight (Oct. 17) at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.

Brenda Levesque, one of the owners of the Buccaneers, said her squad tends to play better against better teams.

“Both teams play really competitive hockey and clean hockey,” she said.

The Bucs lead the North Division and the Cougs lead the South Division. The two teams put on a memorably good show last season in Nanaimo, a game at Frank Crane Arena that ended in a shootout win for the good guys.

“It’s going to be very good hockey no matter who wins, as much as both teams want to come out and win,” Levesque said.

GAME ON … The Bucs visited the Westshore Wolves on Wednesday, losing 2-1. David Osborne scored Nanaimo's goal and Alex Mastrodonato made 28 saves in defeat … Tonight’s game starts at 7:15 p.m. at the NIC. Admission at the door is $9 for adults, $8 for seniors and students and $5 for children.
