V.I. Raiders make playoffs, have one more home game to get ready

The V.I. Raiders had a successful road trip – not only did they clinch a spot in the playoffs, but they also eliminated their Island rivals from playoff contention.

The Raiders defeated the Westshore Rebels 37-14 in Langford on Saturday to earn a berth in the B.C. Football Conference semifinals.

Quarterback Jake LaBerge finished with four passing touchdowns but also threw four interceptions on 22-for-37 passing for 355 yards. He added a rushing touchdown.

Alex Bonnetplume had two TD catches and 116 receiving yards, while Jason Henderson rushed for 159 yards. Marcel Grant and Taylor Becker scored V.I.’s other touchdowns.

Defensively, Gevhahn McNally-Hardisty had two interceptions and Sean Murray had three tackles and two fumble recoveries. Sean Adams and Will Adams had picks.

Fourth-place V.I. has one more regular-season game, to be played at home this coming weekend against the third-place Valley Huskers. With a win, the Raiders can finish ahead of the Huskers in the standings.
