Urgency builds for Timbermen

The Nanaimo Timbermen play two important games this week, visiting New West tonight (July 14) and then hosting Maple Ridge on Saturday.

The Nanaimo Timbermen are still in playoff contention, but they need to start stringing wins together.

The city’s senior A Western Lacrosse Association club plays two important games this week, visiting the New Westminster Salmonbellies tonight (July 14) and then hosting the Maple Ridge Burrards on Saturday.

Kaleb Toth, Timbermen coach, was asked about the intensity that’s necessary at this stage of the season and he said it comes down to being better every day. He’s seen the team take steps in that direction, but knows the guys need to play smart and play hard every game from here on in.

“If we do that, we’ll get in, if we don’t, we won’t,” he said.

Brett Hawrys, T-men forward, said lacrosse is a game of waves and his team needs to find a consistent level of play.

“We’ve been up and down a little bit this season, but I’m hoping for our last few games here we can turn it up and make a run here,” he said.

GAME ON … Saturday’s matchup against the Burrards is a 7 p.m. faceoff at Frank Crane Arena.
