United hopes snow won't slow momentum

Nanaimo United is slated to play Prospect Lake on Saturday (Jan. 21) at 7 p.m. at Merle Logan Field.

The only opponent that could stop Nanaimo United this weekend is the weather.

The city’s Div. 1 men’s Vancouver Island Soccer League team is slated to play Prospect Lake tonight (Jan. 21) at Merle Logan Field.

United (6-6-2) will be favoured against Prospect Lake (2-9-2), especially considering that Nanaimo has won four of its last five including an impressive 2-1 win over tough Gorge FC this past Sunday.

Club manager Allan Jorgensen said the Div. 1 men have been working hard in training.

“With how well they’ve been playing, I think we’re going to be taking more and more people by surprise,” he said. “I think a lot of the teams are really starting to keep their eyes on us now.”

GAME ON … The matchup tonight is slated for 7 p.m., but there is a chance that the snow could force postponement. Nanaimo’s next game is Jan. 28 at home against Cowichan FC.
