The senior B Nanaimo Timbermen will have to take a bit of a bad taste into the off-season as their playoff run ended with a blowout defeat.

The T-men were beaten 24-8 by the Ladner Pioneers on Monday on the mainland, completing a sweep for the Pioneers in the best-of-three semifinal series in the West Coast Senior Lacrosse Association post-season.

Statistics weren’t available at press time, but the T-men got down 8-3 after one period in Ladner and weren’t in it after that.

“We didn’t think that we were overmatched or couldn’t win the series, but in the end there, their talent showed,” said Mike Maughan, coach of the senior B Timbermen.

He said his team did show signs of growth this season.

“The guys have played hard all year, no matter what lineup we had and what challenge we faced,” said Maughan.

The coach said the team will stew over this year’s loss for a little while, but there’s a lot for the organization to look forward to as hosts of the 2018 Presidents’ Cup national championship.

“We tried not to look too far ahead and hoped for some good things this year, but definitely, next year is going to be an incredibly big year and there’s definitely some good signs. It’s nice to see some new faces and some guys that are going to be a big part of what we’re going to try to do next year,” said Maughan.
