Game 2 was a lot closer, but still ended in defeat for the Nanaimo Timbermen.
The city’s Western Lacrosse Association squad lost 10-8 to the Langley Thunder on Sunday, Aug. 21, in the first-ever WLA finals game played at Frank Crane Arena.
The T-men got down in the first period, fought back for a 5-5 tie after two, and then played a back-and-forth third period.

Tewanee Joseph, Timbermen coach, said players did a better job in Game 2 of focusing on their framework and how they wanted to play, but needed it for 60 minutes.
“In the playoffs everything is intensified from the first faceoff,” he said. “Everything is quicker, hits are harder, people run faster, people shoot harder. So I think we just have to come with that mindset right off the get-go.”
Zach Manns led Nanaimo with two goals and an assist and other scorers were Adam Jay, Jon Phillips, Coady Adamson, Will Johansen, Jerome Thompson and Jerrett Smith. Devlin Shanahan made 27 saves as his team outshot the Thunder 54-37.
In Game 1 on Friday, Phillips had a hat trick, Adam Wiedemann also scored and Shanahan made 40 saves as shots were 65-52 for the T-men.
Joseph said his team wants a win in Game 3 and will come out strong to try to get it.
“When you’re on a journey you face different paths and adversities and for us, it’s not what happens, it’s how you deal with it…” the coach said. “So we’re going to look forward.”
GAME ON … The Timbermen and Thunder play Game 3 on Tuesday, Aug. 23, at the Langley Events Centre, then return to Nanaimo’s Frank Crane Arena for Game 4 on Thursday, Aug. 25.
