The Nanaimo Timbermen had a feeling it was all going to come down to the last weekend of the season.
The city’s senior A Western Lacrosse Association team (6-8-2) ends its regular-season schedule with a crucial home-and-home series against the Victoria Shamrocks starting Friday (July 29) in Victoria.
“If we sweep, I think we’re in a pretty good position for getting in. If we split, we’re going to need help,” said Earl Nicholson, general manager of the Coastal Windows Timbermen.
Much will depend on the out-of-town scoreboard, which the T-men will be watching closely.
What they can control are the outcomes against the Shamrocks.
“We played them tough up here, a one-goal game,” Nicholson said. “Anytime we play the Shamrocks the intensity’s going to be there.”
The GM likes the way his team is playing at this stage of the season. It had a chance to win its last game at Coquitlam and played perhaps its best game of the season before that in Langley.
"The last two outings have been solid," Nicholson said. "We're playing really strong. [Matt King]'s back and he's playing good in the net; we're getting playoff-type goaltending."
GAME ON … The Timbermen and Shamrocks play Friday (July 29) at 7:45 at Bear Mountain Arena in Victoria, then play the rematch Saturday (July 30) at 7 p.m. at Frank Crane Arena. Tickets for that one will be available at the door.
