The senior A Nanaimo Timbermen announced their leaders for 2017.

Brody Eastwood was named the new team captain of the city’s Western Lacrosse Association squad last week and Colton Clark, Jake Emms and Brandan Smith will be alternate captains.

Eastwood joked that he’s very excited for the “burden” of wearing the ‘C.’

“It was a tremendous honour,” he said. “The team actually voted this year, so it really feels good to be recognized by your peers in a way like that.”

He said being captain doesn’t necessarily mean he needs to be the one to come up with the big goal at key times.

“I feel like it’s not like that … We [have] some spread scoring; we’re just always looking for the next guy to score. So I don’t feel any type of pressure, which is good. I can just go out and play.”

GAME ON … The Timbermen visits the Burnaby Lakers on Friday (June 2). Nanaimo’s next home game is June 10, when the Salmonbellies visit Frank Crane Arena for a 6 p.m. faceoff.
