Tag-team wrestling contenders enter chamber

Nanaimo pro wrestlers Scott Steel and B.J. Laredo fight for the VIPW tag titles this Saturday (May 21) at the Departure Bay Activity Centre.

Two teams will enter the chamber, and one will emerge as tag-team champions.

Nanaimo pro wrestlers Scott Steel and B.J. Laredo will fight for the Vancouver Island Pro Wrestling tag titles this Saturday (May 21) at the Departure Bay Activity Centre.

The match will be fought inside a cage structure being billed as a ‘chamber of extreme.’

The long-reigning current tag champions, The Wisemen – Tony Baroni and Billy Suede – have survived repeated challenges from Steel and Laredo, but have only retained the belts by cheating. This Saturday, points out Laredo, cheating will be legal. The chamber will contain various weapons that wrestlers will be free to use.

Laredo likes the format of the match, but said he and Steel will still have to be on the same page if they want to win the belts.

“We need to work as a team,” he said. “We need to dig deep and go as crazy as we can.”

Front-row tickets are already sold out, as promoter Brent LaPlante said the chamber match seems to be a draw for fans.

“They’re looking forward to seeing us beat the tar out of The Wisemen,” said Laredo.

Also on the five-match card is decorated veteran Nicole Matthews, who will face Riea Von Slasher.

VIPW champion Eddie Osbourne will defend his title against Mike Everest, and Lak Siddartha and Krofton are other wrestlers who will be in action in separate matches.

Tickets are $15, or $10 in advance from Centre Court Collectibles, That ’50s Barbershop and China Steps Emporium. Doors are at 5:30 p.m. and the show starts at 6 p.m. so fans can go to the Heritage Days fireworks afterward.
