It’s the first year swimming at a high-performance level for many of the Nanaimo Diamonds, yet they seem to keep their cool in the pool.

The synchronized swim club’s top team placed fourth overall at Synchro Canada’s Western Divisionals March 24-27 in Regina after placing third in final routines.

Team members include Morgan Brimacombe, Elodie Clayton, Shannon Costello, Kim Kuemper, MacKenzie Hollett, Melissa Pirart, Lezah Smith and Robyn Bartle with Meghan Dougan as an alternate.

Dougan, meanwhile, finished fifth in her solo division after coming third in figures, fourth in technical solo and sixth in free solo.

Leading up to Westerns, the Diamonds competed at Syncho B.C.’s national stream provincial meet in Surrey Feb. 11-13. There, the 16-18-year-old Diamonds won gold in their final routine and in the overall championship standings. Dougan earned silver in her solo swim.

The Diamonds will compete at a regional meet in Victoria this Saturday (April 9) and will host the Jean Peters provincial championships May 13-15 at the Nanaimo Aquatic Centre.
