The Nanaimo Sport Achievement Awards committee announced this year’s Athlete Assistance Program funding recipients at a media event at the Nanaimo Museum’s Sports Hall of Fame on Monday, June 22.

Curlers Kesa, Kalia and Marika Van Osch received $500 each, and lacrosse player Johnnie Grais also received $500. Kesa Van Osch, who represented B.C. at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in 2014, will have the opportunity to curl on a team with her younger sisters this coming season as Marika is now eligible to compete at the women’s level. Grais is a member of the Team B.C. U18 field lacrosse team bound for nationals.

The Athlete Assistance Program funding benefits local high-calibre athletes and is possible through the support of Nanaimo Sport Achievement Awards sponsors and by proceeds from the annual awards gala at the Coast Bastion Hotel. Awards chairwoman Marilyn Sullivan thanked sponsors for their continued support.
