It’s not so much skill, but spirit and sportsmanship that win the day in the Nanaimo Adult Rec Slo-Pitch League.

The league, for women 45 and older and men 50 and up, is getting ready to play ball for another season at the McGirr Sports Fields in the north end.

Hans Larsen, the league’s president, said players are looking forward to the season very much. He said returnees hope to see new faces every spring.

“The new players really keep us young; they keep us excited about what we’re doing,” he said.

Registration will be at McGirr on Tuesday (April 15) and April 17 at 9:30 a.m., with pickup games to follow.

The league doesn’t keep score or take itself too seriously, but ball playing experience helps, and players should be prepared for some healthy activity.

“We’d encourage them to get into some kind of exercise, whether it’s just walking, certainly some stretching,” Larsen said.
