Nanaimo’s B.C. Major Midget League hockey team (16-14-4) upset the Vancouver Northeast Chiefs (19-11-4) on Sunday by a 5-1 score at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.

BCMML Player of the Month Chase Lang led the way with a goal and two assists and Kyle MacDonald, Nick Gomerich, David Osborne and Ryan Coghlan also scored. Riley Medves was the winning goalie.

The victory balanced out a 6-0 loss to the Chiefs the day before.

The win put the sixth-place ’Tips three points clear of the Valley West Hawks in the BCMML playoff chase, but the North Island boys will be in tough to pick up points today (Feb. 18) and tomorrow as they visit the league-leading Vancouver Northwest Giants.
