Nanaimo’s B.C. Major Midget League team is getting ready for its home openers after dominating the Kootenay Ice in the mountains last weekend, winning 5-1 on Saturday and then 10-2 the next day.

In the first game Grady McInnes, Curtis McCarrick, Jordan Topping, Patrick Bajkov and Nick Gomerich scored the goals and Kyle McDonald had three assists. Liam Giroux was the winning goalie.

The next day Bajkov tallied a hat trick, Joe Surgenor scored a pair and McCarrick had a goal and three assists. Other scorers were Gomerich, Liam Shaw, McInnes and Trent Bell. Liam Young picked up the win between the pipes.

GAME ON … The ’Tips take on the Okanagan Rockets Saturday (Sept. 29) at 5:15 p.m. at the Nanaimo Ice Centre and the rematch is Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at the NIC … A season preview of the Silvertips appeared last week in the Bulletin and can still be accessed online here.
