The senior B Nanaimo Timbermen, after their first-round bye, can now get their post-season started.

The Re/Max Timbermen, first-place finishers in the West Coast Senior Lacrosse Association’s regular season, will take on the Victoria Wolves in the second round of the playoffs starting Wednesday, July 25.

The Wolves advanced through the first round after sweeping a best-of-three against the Langley Warriors.

Shawn Swanson, T-men general manager, said the Wolves have some high-end talent, but said the Re/Max Timbermen have the advantage when it comes to overall depth.

“They’re going to be good, they’re just coming off a sweep, they’re hot right now,” said Swanson. “We’ve had some time off and that can leave you a little shell-shocked for the first 10 minutes of a game, so we’re expecting them to come at us hard and try and beat us and we’re hoping to weather the storm.”

He said the Timbermen had their usual practice week during their first-round bye and seem to have the right mindset heading into their first playoff game.

“We feel like we’re getting to work and we need to batten down the hatches and get at this,” he said. “We really want to … go into the Presidents Cup as league champions, not [just] as host, and it all starts tomorrow.”

Swanson said the senior B Timbermen are also hoping to sell more tickets to the Presidents Cup national championships. Tickets are available on the club’s website at www.nanaimotimbermen.com and will also be for sale at all home games.

On the other side of the WCSLA brackets, the No. 2-seeded Ladner Pioneers will face the Coquitlam Adanacs who got past the Royal City Capitals in the first round.

GAME ON … The Timbermen and Wolves play Game 1 of the best-of-five series on Wednesday, July 25, at 8 p.m. at Frank Crane Arena. Game 2 is the next night in Victoria and Game 3 goes Sunday at 6 p.m. at Frank Crane.
