The Vancouver Island University Invitational volleyball tournament is always a good early-season indicator of how teams stack up.

The Dover Bay Dolphins AAAA senior girls showed well, finishing fourth at the two-day, 30-team tourney this past weekend.

Almost every local high school was represented. The Nanaimo District Islanders placed 10th and the Wellington Wildcats, Aspengrove Ravens, Nanaimo Christian Trailblazers and Barsby Blazers also entered teams.

The Belmont Bulldogs won the tournament, defeating the St. Thomas More Knights in straight sets in the final, 25-20, 25-13. Dover fell to the St. Patrick Celtics in the third-place match, 13-25, 25-15, 15-13.

Dover’s Maddie McDonald was chosen a second-team all-star.
