It’s time to lace up those roller skates once again as the Eves of Destruction roller derby league makes its triumphant return in Victoria tonight.

Two hometown teams, Belles of the Brawl and the Margarita Villains, take to the track in Esquimalt against the Sea to Sky Sirens from Squamish and Nanaimo’s Harbour City Rollers.

“It’s an exciting time for our top skaters on the A-Team with being accepted into the best derby league in the world, the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association,” said league president, The Wife of Wrath in a statement kicking off the new season.

“Our house teams The Belles of the Brawl and The Margarita Villains are the bedrock of the league and both games will be exciting. I especially can’t wait to introduce all our new rookies.”

The game marks the debut of this season’s exciting acquisition for the Belles of the Brawl —explosive jammer Kariac Arrest —formerly of Nanaimo’s Harbour City Rollers, and the return of Roller Derby World Cup player Rage. It will also be the first time a number of skaters have played for last year’s Calamity Cup Champion Margarita Villains - Fat Bottomed Hurls, Chip n’ Flail, Kourageous K, Daddy Stronglegs and Femme Fatality — who was drafted to the Villains right out of the junior level where she played for the Eves’ Rotten Apples.

Saturday night’s bouts begin at 5:30 p.m. from the Archie Browing Arena and tickets are available online. This event is kid friendly (kids 10 and under are free), and includes a beer garden, half-time contest, 50-50 draw and vendor village.

The Eves of Destruction Roller Derby League was formed in 2006, has over 80 players, refs, and officials, and features five teams. Adult members play for The A-Team, The Belles of the Brawl, The Margarita Villains and The Hard Cores.

The league also has a gender-inclusive junior team, The Rotten Apples, made up of players aged 10-18.
