Riptides set records at Spring Sprint

The Nanaimo Riptides let 'er rip at their major annual swim meet.

The city's indoor swim team hosted the NRST Spring Sprint invitational May 25-26 at the Nanaimo Aquatic Centre. This year's meet was particularly competitive with teams coming from as far away as Whitehorse.

As far as Riptides results go, Griffin Nielsen-Sendy set five new club records in the 50-metre freestyle, 100m free, 50m backstroke, 100m back and the 50m butterfly. Claire Boudrot established a club record in the 50m breaststroke and Ry Della Rosa set a club record in the 100m free and he and Tanaiya Lofeudo both secured AA times in the 50m free. Michael Houghton made his AA time in the 50m fly and Abby Shoesmith got one in the 200m back.

Results include:

10-and-under - Michael Houghton, second, 50m breaststroke, second, 100m breast, second, 50m butterfly.

11-12-year-old - Claire Boudrot, second, 50m breast.

13-14-year-old - Amanda Assen, third, 200m backstroke, third, 50m back, second, 100m back; Alayna Crane, third, 200m free, first, 100m back; Reid Della Rosa, third, 200m breast, first, 50m fly; Liam Shoesmith, second, 50m fly.

15-and-over - Gage Della Rosa, second, 200m individual medley, second, 100m breast; Damon Pedersen, third, 100m breast; Daniel Whiteley, second, 100m freestyle, first, 50m fly, first, 100m back; Kara Wilson, third, 200m breast, first, 200m IM, first, 100m free.
