After a two-year COVID-19 hiatus, central Island athletes are again being encouraged to try out for a chance to make it to the 55-plus B.C. Games.

With this year’s games set for Victoria from Sept. 13-17, registration has begun for people 55 years old and up for archery, badminton, bocce, bridge, carpet bowling, cribbage, curling, road cycling, darts, dragonboating, equestrian, floor curling, golf, hockey, horseshoes, lawn bowling, mountain biking, pickleball, pool, slo-pitch, snooker, soccer, swimming, table tennis, track and field, triathlon and whist, said a press release.

Demonstration sports for these games will be three-on-three basketball and rowing, the press release said.

Interested athletes are asked to register online by choosing their sport, contacting their zone sports coordinator and submitting registration forms and fees. Deadline is June 30, although there may be qualifiers for some sports, necessitating an earlier deadline.

Nanaimo, Lantzville and Ladysmith are in Zone 2.

For registration, rules and vaccination requirements, go to www.55plusbcgames.org. Nancy Ryan, Nanaimo-Lantzville-Ladysmith representative, can also be contacted at ryannancy182@gmail.com.
