The Nanaimo White Rapids always make a splash on Canada Day.

The summer swim club’s annual invitational tournament returns this Friday (July 1) through Sunday at Bowen Park’s Kin Pool.

“We’ve been training really hard,” said Adrienne Vida, coach of the Rapids. “We’ve been doing high-intensity workouts moving into a really fast-paced meet.”

The Nanaimo invitational is one of the few events in the summer swim series to include heats and finals, so it’s a big-meet atmosphere. Joining the 100 White Rapids will be hundreds more competitors from around the Island and mainland.

“It’s going to be crazy. There’s going to be a lot going on,” Vida said. “It’s just a very fun, family-oriented atmostphere. Lots of cheering, lots of face painting, just a lot of team spirit.”

SWIM SHORTS … Action gets underway Friday at about 2 p.m., then continues all day Saturday and Sunday … For more on the White Rapids, please click here.
