Pro wrestling invades VIEX

NANAIMO – Pro wrestling is taking place all three days of the Vancouver Island Exhibition at Beban Park.

The wrestling ring will be full to bursting this weekend at the VIEX.

Pro wrestling is taking place all three days of the Vancouver Island Exhibition this Friday through Sunday (Aug. 21-23) at Beban Park.

Vancouver Island Pro Wrestling will be partnering with Pure Wrestling Association to put together the three cards. It’s the second year in a row that pro wrestling has invaded the VIEX.

“It does help broaden our spectrum and promote Vancouver Island Pro Wrestling and PWA and get them out to another group of people, anybody that hasn’t seen it before that might be interested,” said Brent LaPlante, one of the organizers.

There’s bound to be a lot of roughhousing in the ring and trash talking on the mike, but LaPlante said it’s PG sort of stuff.

“We’re pretty open and family friendly in general,” he said. “We pride ourselves on that and [performing at the fair] doesn’t really change what we do in the ring.”

Friday night’s action is the King of the Ex tournament, where Nanaimo wrestler B.J. Laredo will look to defend his crown.

“Obviously the plan is to repeat and be the first-ever two-time King of the Ex,” said Laredo.

Saturday is a night of champions, as two title belts will be on the line. The PWA B.C. champion Krofton will defend against Nanaimo’s Scott Steel and PWA Pure Violence champ Hardcore Hick will defend against Lak Siddartha.

The Sunday afternoon show will be headlined by Krofton versus Hick and Cremator Von Slasher and others are also on the card.

All three shows will feature a women’s match between Riea Von Slasher and Bambi Hall.

Friday and Saturday’s action starts at 6 p.m. and Sunday’s show is at 2 p.m. The only admission charge is VIEX general admission.
