Premier Pirates winding down

NANAIMO – The Pirates played a midweek doubleheader on Tuesday and were swept by the Victoria Mariners, 5-2, 9-1, at Serauxmen Stadium.

The Nanaimo Pirates will hope to end a tough season on a positive note.

The Hub City Paving Pirates close out the B.C. Premier Baseball League season this Friday (July 22) with an evening game against the Parksville Royals.

The Pirates played a midweek doubleheader on Tuesday and were swept by the Victoria Mariners, 5-2, 9-1, at Serauxmen Stadium.

In the first game, the Pirates outhit the M's 8-4 but couldn't string enough of those hits together. Garrett Goodall hit a single and a double and Shane Rogers was 2-for-3. Will Drewry threw four perfect innings of relief.

In the rematch, Chris Vlaj hit a single and a double.

GAME ON … The Pirates and Royals play Friday at 6 p.m. at Serauxmen Stadium.
