The Timbermen can assure themselves of a national medal if they can win today.

The Re/Max Timbermen take on the Oakville Titans at 3 p.m. today, Sept. 1, in the semifinals of the Presidents Cup national senior B lacrosse tournament.

“We’re where we need to be to do what we want to do, so two more steps to do and hopefully we can get there,” said Shawn Swanson, Timbermen general manager.

Nanaimo won its final round-robin game versus the Capital Region Axemen 10-4 on Friday afternoon to move to 5-2. With three teams all at 5-2, a complicated tiebreaker format seeded Nanaimo third.

The tiebreaker confused the tournament website, which has been displaying incorrect schedule information since Friday.

Jeff Shattler led the T-men with two goals and three assists on Friday and Nick Preston also scored twice. Andrew Miller had a goal and four assists and other scorers were Darrin Wilson, Sam Postma, Joe Fendick, Shane Chalker and Brad Mazzocato. Pete Dubenski only needed to make 18 saves for the win.

GAME ON … The Timbermen will face the Titans at 3 p.m., contrary to information on the official tournament website. The No. 1-seeded St. Albert Miners will take on the Caughnawaga Indians in the 6 p.m. semifinal. The Presidents Cup champion will be determined Sunday at 6 p.m. after a 3 p.m. bronze-medal game. All games are at Frank Crane Arena and tickets will be available at the door.
