Pirates, Royals renew rivalry

NANAIMO – The Hub City Paving Pirates host the Parksville Royals tonight (May 8) at Serauxmen Stadium.

The Nanaimo Pirates have a great night for baseball, and they'll want to make the most of it with a win.

The Hub City Paving Pirates host the Parksville Royals tonight (May 8) at Serauxmen Stadium.

The home team is coming off a tough weekend in its home park when it won just one of four games. On paper the Pirates (7-10) are favoured against the Royals (2-10) but the boys in the purple socks always seem to make the Pirates work for wins.

"We always have a rivalry with them, no matter what, whether we're both at the top of the league or both at the bottom," said Doug Rogers, Pirates manager.

The manager mentioned that in a mid-week game like this, he may use multiple pitchers so all his guys will be available for road games Sunday (May 12) at North Delta. But first and foremost, the Pirates will be playing to win against the Royals.

"Hopefully we just have a solid game, no mistakes," said Devon Geary, Pirates pitcher. "We should be able to skill-wise beat them, but we can't expect them to lose – we've got to bring it to them."

GAME ON … The Pirates and Royals play at 6 p.m. at Serauxmen. Admission is $5.
