The Nanaimo Hub City Paving Pirates made a series of it, but couldn’t pull off one last upset.

The city’s B.C. Premier Baseball League team lost its first-round playoff series against the Langley Blaze two games to one this past weekend on the mainland. The Pirates lost 7-1, won 3-2, then lost 11-1.

In Nanaimo’s victory, Josh Burgmann threw a complete-game win, allowing four hits and striking out nine. Cole Warken and Tom Negrin were both 2-for-3 at the plate in that game.
