The Nanaimo Pirates peewee AAA all-stars will go into the Western Canadian championships playing some solid ball.

The team made it to the semifinals at provincials this past weekend on the Lower Mainland. Nanaimo went 2-2 in the round robin, starting with a 4-0 shutout over Ladner on Thursday and also including a 12-2 blowout of Ridge Meadows. Nanaimo lost its crossover game to Abbotsford 8-0.

The setback is only a minor one, though, as the peewee Pirates prepare for the finale to the 2011 season. The Nanaimo Minor Baseball Association is hosting teams from B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba for Baseball Canada’s Western Canadian Championships starting Thursday (Aug. 25) at the Serauxmen Sports Fields.
