Paddlers set pace at Crazy 8 race

The Nanaimo Canoe and Kayak Club held its Crazy 8 race on Saturday around Newcastle Island and Protection Island.

Outrigger canoe teams look to get a good start during the Nanaimo Canoe and Kayak Club’s Crazy 8 race on Saturday. Thirty-eight teams from around the Island and the mainland participated in the 13-kilometre figure-eight course around Newcastle Island and Protection Island, in windy conditions. It was the NCKC’s eighth annual Crazy 8 race.

Results include:

Men – Comox Masters, 1:02:52; Da Boys, Go Rowing Paddling Club, 1:03:05; OC Adventurers, Nanaimo Canoe and Kayak Club, 1:05:25.

Women – Comox Strathcona, 1:10:22; Gorging Dragons, Vancouver Island Paddlers, 1:11:33; ORPC Blue, Ocean River Paddling Club, 1:12:28.

Mixed – Te-apori, Nanaimo Canoe and Kayak Club, 1:07:06; Lima Mahina, Go Rowing Paddling Club, 1:07:31; Two to One, Go Rowing Paddling Club, 1:07:44.
