Nordic skier makes worlds

Dennis Lynch was named to Team Canada for the 2017 Special Olympics World Winter Games.

A Nanaimo cross-country skier is already looking forward to winter.

Dennis Lynch was named to Team Canada for the 2017 Special Olympics World Winter Games.

Lynch competed at the 2016 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in Corner Brook, Nfld., winning gold in the 500-metre classic race and silver in the 1km and 2.5km classic races.

The worlds will be held in three different cities in Austria from March 14-25, 2017. The cross-country skiing will take place in Ramsau.

Special Olympics Team Canada 2017 consists of 110 athletes and 35 coaches and mission staff.

“They will be hard at work over the coming months training for the experience of a lifetime,” said Megan Pollock, communications manager with Special Olympics B.C., in a press release.
