Nanaimo District Secondary School’s senior AAA girls’ volleyball team won the Island championship Saturday in Victoria, defeating Ballenas in straight sets in the final, 25-21, 25-21, 25-18.

“The kids are really pumped up about it,” said Gary Maitland, NDSS coach. “They’ve worked hard for three months … Their goal was to be Island champions and they reached that goal.”

“They’re very businesslike – this is the job at hand, this is what we need to go and get done,” Maitland said. “They don’t get too high or too low at any point. They’re really quite consistent.”

Victoria Behie was selected as tournament MVP.
