Nanaimo's Simpson wins Cedar 12K

Some of the region's fastest runners made short work of a 12-kilometre road race.

Nanaimo's Forrest Simpson was the winner of Sunday's Cedar 12K, one of the stops on the Vancouver Island Runners Association's Island Race Series.

Simpson, representing the University of Victoria Vikings team, completed the course in 37 minutes, 57 seconds.

The women's winner was Lauren Babineau of Victoria, who finished in 45:53, 30 seconds ahead of runner-up Melissa Ross of Nanaimo.
