United doubled up Bays United 2-1 on Saturday at Merle Logan Field.

Nanaimo United came up with its biggest win of the season so far, upending last year’s champs. United doubled up Bays United 2-1 on Saturday at Merle Logan Field.

The game was tied until the 60th minute, when Matt Mehrassa delivered a perfect through ball to Alex Escobar for a goal. Five minutes later the home team struck again as Thomas Anderson headed home a cross from A.J. Kambere.

Bays got one back late but Nanaimo held on.

United (2-2) hosts Gorge FC (1-3) on Saturday (Oct. 12) at 7 p.m. at Merle Logan Field. Admission is free.
