Nanaimo was again a big winner at the B.C. Lions' annual Orange Helmet Awards.
Local football teams were presented with three separate honours at the event, held Friday at the Vancouver Convention Centre. The V.I. Raiders junior football team and the John Barsby Bulldogs AA varsity football team were both recognized as provincial champions in their respective divisions in 2010. Bulldogs coach Rob Stevenson was also honoured as Scholastic Coach of the Year.
"I think it represented the type of season and the type of people associated with the program this past year," Stevenson said. "It was a coaching staff award. There was a lot of people coaching a lot of positions out there and we had some pretty darn good players to work with."
