Nanaimo Sports Hall of Fame seeking nominations

The Nanaimo Museum announced this month that it is calling for nominations for the 2017 sports hall of fame class.

The Nanaimo Sports Hall of Fame has become quite an honour and next year, that honour will be bestowed on some new members.

The Nanaimo Museum announced this month that it is calling for nominations for the 2017 sports hall of fame class.

“A nomination is a great start to honouring the significant contribution made by a friend, relative, or someone you admire in the sporting community,” said Debbie Trueman, the museum’s general manager, in a press release. “Their accomplishments often represent nationally recognized achievement in all levels of sport or strong contributions to community athletics in Nanaimo.”

The Nanaimo Sports Hall of Fame was started in 2008 and there are five categories: athlete, builder, media, pioneer and team. The hall is set up in the museum’s lobby and the exhibit includes memorabilia, photographs and plaques.
