The Nanaimo Clippers have been a longtime supporter of the Great Nanaimo Toy Drive, and this year they’re setting a lofty goal of filling their team bus with donations.
The Clippers will park their bus in front of Beban Pool on their next game night Friday, Dec. 10, before the team takes on the Coquitlam Express. Fans will be asked to bring donations of toys, games or books, where volunteers will be waiting to gather the presents starting at 5:45 p.m.
“It is so wonderful to see the Clippers carrying on their tradition of partnership with the toy drive,” said Carolyn Iles, toy drive director, in a press release. “Youths helping youths and families helping families, through a community event, such as the Stuff the Bus campaign should make the whole community proud.”
Toy drive organizers say some of the most requested items this year are Paw Patrol toys and LOL dolls, arts and crafts, science kits, board games, headphones, scooters and skateboards.
Isabella Kortbeek, Clippers marketing and sales representative, said in the release that the team listens to community partners to try to make the greatest impact.
“Our partnership with the Great Nanaimo Toy Drive has also been about bringing gifts and hope to families in need at Christmas, and the Stuff the Bus campaign is exactly how we’ll do that this year,” she said.
On the ice, the Clippers will be pressing for a win after dropping their first two games of December, both on home ice this past weekend. The Clips fell 3-2 against the Cowichan Valley Capitals on Friday and 4-1 versus the Surrey Eagles on Sunday afternoon.
GAME ON … The Clippers play the Express on Friday, Dec. 10, at 7 p.m. at Frank Crane Arena. For ticket information, visit www.nanaimoclippers.com.
