The Nanaimo Clippers played .500 hockey in the first half of their accelerated B.C. Hockey League season, and know they’ll need to pick up the pace in the second half to achieve their goals.
Nanaimo was 5-5 through the first 10 games of the 20-game pod schedule in Port Alberni, then dropped back-to-back contests this past weekend, falling 6-1 to the first-place Victoria Grizzlies and then 5-1 to the second-place Alberni Valley Bulldogs.
Nanaimo gets a rematch against the Bulldogs on Wednesday, April 28, at 7 p.m.
“We need to take care of our own end and pay attention to details, also find a way to score some goals,” said Clippers goalie Jordan Naylor in a team press release.
The goalie said the team needs to start stringing together wins.
“The rest of these games are pretty much must-win if we want to finish in first place and that is our goal,” Naylor said.
Trevor LeDonne and Tristan Fraser, who scored Nanaimo’s goals on the weekend, were also the team’s leading scorers in the first half of the pod season.
