The Nanaimo Clippers showed some resiliency early in the B.C. Hockey League season.

The city’s junior A club suffered a blowout loss one night, then managed a winning result one night later. The Clips lost 9-1 to the Powell River Kings on Friday at Frank Crane Arena, then defeated the Victoria Grizzlies 5-2 on Saturday at Frank Crane.

Friday’s game didn’t turn into a blowout until the third period, as the score was 3-1 going into the final frame before things fell apart for the home team. Shawn Guison scored his team’s only goal in that one. Shots were 40-37 for the Kings.

The next night, the Clips outshot the Grizz 34-21. Nanaimo’s scorers were Lucas Vanroboys, Parker Colley, Jake Harris, Jamie Collins and Vincent Millette. Noah Featherstonhaugh Gowe was the winning goalie.

GAME ON … Next action for the Clippers is the BCHL Showcase event in Chilliwack Friday and Saturday (Sept. 22-23). Nanaimo will face the host Chiefs and the Wenatchee Wild, respectively.
