Nanaimo Clippers earn all-star nods, keep winning hockey games

Clips have won four straight, sit atop BCHL’s Coastal Conference

The Nanaimo Clippers are on a hot streak that they’ll try to carry through to the Christmas break.

Nanaimo’s B.C. Hockey League team won its third and fourth straight games this past weekend on home ice to stay on top of the Coastal Conference.

The Clippers got past the Chilliwack Chiefs by a 3-1 score on Friday, Dec. 2, at Frank Crane Arena, then handled the Merritt Centennials the next night by a 7-3 margin.

In the first game, Skyler Cameron, Kai Daniells and Mike Murtagh scored, with Aidan Campbell only required to make 23 saves as his team outshot the visitors 32-24.

The next night, Murtagh and Brody Waters each scored a pair and Daniells, Charles Tardif and Michael Craig were the other scorers. Shane Shelest tended goal and turned aside 32 pucks as the Clips outshot the Cents 48-35.

In other Clippers news, the team will have two representatives at the BCHL’s All-Star Game in the new year. Clippers defenceman Ethan Mistry was voted by the fans as a Coastal Conference all-star, and then Daniells was also selected as an all-star. The all-star game Jan. 21 in Penticton will be held outdoors and played in a three-on-three tournament format.

GAME ON … The Clippers visit the Alberni Valley Bulldogs on Friday, Dec. 9, and are then back at Frank Crane Arena on Sunday, Dec. 11, to face the Coquitlam Express in a 2 p.m. matinee. For ticket information, visit www.nanaimoclippers.com.
