Nanaimo Buccaneers score 20 goals in two games

Junior B hockey team defeats Comox Valley Glacier Kings 12-5 and Kerry Park Islanders 8-2

The Buccaneers couldn’t be contained in two wins last week.

Nanaimo’s Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League team scored 20 goals over two games, outracing out the Comox Valley Glacier Kings 12-5 on Thursday at the Nanaimo Ice Centre and then blowing out the Kerry Park Islanders 8-2 on Saturday at Mill Bay.

Luc Wilson scored a hat trick in Thursday’s win, with Mathieu Jallabert scoring a goal to go with three assists. Darian Harris scored twice and Brandon Roberge and Dylan Hartl each tallied a goal and two helpers. Owen Dalman, Noah Kelly and Wyatt Selva were other scorers. Booker Chacalias had four assists.

Derek Krall and Blake Wood shared duties in the crease as the Bucs were actually outshot 45-34.

On Saturday, Chacalias led the attack with two goals and two assists and Roberge had two goals. Jallabert, Will Norman, Trey Watson and Jayden Schubert also scored.

Krall was the winning goalie with 26 saves as shots were 40-28 for Nanaimo.

GAME ON … The Bucs host the Saanich Braves on Thursday (Sept. 28) at 7:15 p.m. at the NIC.
